International furniture giant Natuzzi, had for years rented showroom space in High Point, North Carolina. Seeking to own and set up a distribution base, the company purchased several acres of land just outside High Point proper. In addition to full time office space, Natuzzi required a large, flexible showroom, divisible warehouse space, private regional showrooms, transitional market offices, meeting rooms, and entertainment accommodation. A trapezoidal base plan was designed to align an awkward highway to building adjacency. Not wanting a typical speculative office appearance, and not requiring a massive glass façade, it was decided to design a single structure punctuated by elliptical cylinders and offset by ground plan geometries. These cylinders are placed on a low (roof) platform as if furniture on display. Clad in white/silver metal panels, the complex was to exude a clean, elegant, and inventive persona in complete accord with the company’s design mission. Within weeks of construction the company decided to remain in downtown High Point.
